The Duckworth Lewis system was North City's enemy as they lost to Upper Hutt in Wellington premier cricket on Saturday.

In the rain, North City managed 137 all out, Nick Walters (45) and Dane Hutchinson (31) the only scorers of note as they batted first at Barton Oval.

In chasing, and despite recording six ducks, Upper Hutt got ahead of the required run rate under the DL system and were 90/9 after 22.4 overs when the rain came again. Aussie import Hutchinson took 4-12 from seven overs, with Tipene Friday and Neeraj Chawla returning 2-14 and 2-22 respectively.

The result sees Norths mid-table on nine points, just seven points behind leaders Karori and University.
