A crash on State Highway 1 has sent a car carrying a woman and a toddler into the window of a shop.

The car was heading north through Paraparaumu at the intersection with Kapiti Rd, when it collided with a hatchback turning from the southbound lane of SH1 at about 12.15pm today.

The impact shunted the northbound car carrying the female driver and child through the intersection, across the footpath between two sets of traffic lights, and into the front window of ThePrintRoom.

No one inside ThePrintRoom was injured, and workers from the nearby shops assisted the drivers from both cars and the toddler, and comforted them until emergency services arrived.

Senior constable Kevin Reay said the toddler was put in a neck brace and taken to hospital to be checked.

The elderly man was shaken but not hurt. His car received moderate damage.
