Mayor Jenny Rowan has announced she will stand for another term as mayor of Kapiti.

"This has been a very challenging triennium for me, for my council colleagues and for the district, but there are things to be completed and I'm up for another three years."

She said the reality of local government was that it was difficult to achieve what you want to in three years. "I set out to get things done, I want to cut a few more ribbons and see a number of big projects completed."

Ms Rowan said with the airport plans, the expressway decision and the railway being electrified and double-tracked, Kapiti was on the "cusp of enormous change".

"I'd like to be part of seeing these through to completion, in a way that is sustainable, and in the best interests of the majority."

She said she wants to sign-off on the water project, get things cracking with the aquatic centre, sort out the town centre land issues, up-grade Mahara Gallery and get the best outcomes from council's membership on the New Zealand Transport Agency expressway alliance.

"This is not a job for the faint hearted. We have a vociferous minority of people who criticise almost anything that's happening here. We need to turn this energy around."

Ms Rowan said she believed she had brought strong leadership to a diverse council, worked effectively with council staff and had worked hard to stand up for the district nationally, regionally and locally.

"I love Kapiti, I love living here, and I'm still inspired to be the best possible advocate for our district."
