It's no ordinary burger, with a beef patty from Waikanae, cheddar cheese from Kapiti and bread from Brooklyn Bakery, Lembas Cafe's Lembastic burger has won the inaugural Wellington on a Plate burger title.
The "good Kiwiana" burger also contains egg, caramelised onions, beetroot and roasted red capsicum and comes with a side of potato roasties.
Beating 32 other entries from Wellington cafes and restaurants, including an entry from renowned Wellington chef Martin Bosley, the burger scored 4.94 out of five, nudging out Cafe Polo's vegetarian Polly Burger by just 0.01 of a point.
Unfortunately for Lembas Cafe owner Gail Lewis the prize for winning was "just glory".
Nevertheless, the cafe will soon be sporting signs advertising their glorious award-winning burger.
The burger was chosen because it was big, delicious and filling, and supported local businesses.
Lembas chef Anita "Tinks" Wray said the burger was good because it was made with fresh ingredients. "It's big and colourful and it tastes great."
