Kapiti actor gets big break
Kapiti man James Trevena- Brown has got his big break in acting, earning a major role on comedy drama television series The Blue Rose.
The new series, to screen on TV3, is created by the makers of hit shows Outrageous Fortune and The Almighty Johnsons.
Filming started yesterday, and Trevena-Brown, 25, said he is "over the moon" about securing a role.
"I auditioned for it in late April or early May," said the former ice hockey player, and inline hockey rep.
"To be honest I just go into auditions, do my job, do my audition and then leave and don't think about it afterwards.
"I had no idea if I'd get it. You don't know if you did well or not because you don't get feedback. I got a call about a week later saying I'd got the part.
"You've got no idea how happy I was.
"I was over the moon, stoked."
The cast includes some well- known names in New Zealand acting, including big names from Outrageous Fortune Antonia Prebble and Siobhan Marshall, who play the lead roles in The Blue Rose.
Also in the cast are former Shortland Street, Underbelly NZ, Go Girls and Spartacus actors.
The Blue Rose is set in Auckland, and is a "fresh take on the investigative drama series", a press release from South Pacific Pictures said.
Trevena-Brown will play a lawyer named Charlie, a role he said will suit his personality.
"He's pretty much just a nice guy. He is pretty much me. I get to be a bit of an office clown, so, yeah. It should be fun."
The show is Trevena- Brown's biggest break, since taking up acting in 2010, after three years playing professional ice hockey in Germany.
The former Kapiti Sportsman of the Year is also a New Zealand inline hockey representative.
He expects the show to come out later this year, and has mixed feelings about seeing it.
"If I do well, I'd love to see it. But if I don't then I won't want to watch it," he said.
"I've met the other guys in rehearsal and stuff and they are great, I'm not nervous about working with them.
"But I'm a bit nervous still."
