On Saturday morning I lost my beautiful nephew Sean to a mindless killing. Sean's parents will never be able to hug Sean again, or see him grow into a fine young man.

Sean's only sibling, his beautiful sister has lost a brother and best friend.

My brother will never see his grandson again.

To the youth of Kapiti, take responsibility for your own actions. The police or hotel do not pour alcohol down your throats, nor do they arm you with knives or other weapons.

You do that to yourself. Stop blaming others for your own actions. Next time you go out drinking ask yourself why?

When you put that knife or other weapon in your pocket ask yourself who are you going to kill, or be killed yourself.

Life is a precious gift and should be treated as such.

Grieving Aunty,

Ann Lintern
