Two men stole a ute and drove it to a Paraparaumu Beach shop, where they grabbed two drawers of cigarettes yesterday morning.

The offenders stole a Mitsubishi L200 ute from the Kapiti Boating Club overnight while the owner was staying on Kapiti Island, police said.

Senior Sergeant Alasdair Macmillan said the men then drove the ute onto the footpath outside a Seaview Rd superette at about 4.20am yesterday morning.

"Security footage shows two males, totally dressed in black with balaclavas and gloves, approach the entrance and jemmy the door open.

"The two males targeted the bottom three drawers of the cigarette cabinet."

Mr Macmillan said several packets of Winfield brand cigarettes were taken. The men grabbed two of the drawers and threw them onto the ute.

They drove away north on Seaview Rd, onto Howell Rd, and north along Marine Pde.

He said the vehicle has yet to be located. One of the men is caucasian, medium build and about five feet, 10 inches - or 178 centimetres - tall.

Police would like any information which could help.
