Rock music is taking over the Waterfront Bar for Kapiti's first Summer Rock Fest this weekend.

The event is a spin-off from the Kapiti Music Festival, held in May to celebrate New Zealand Music Month, said assisting organiser Chris Craddock.

"[People] were so happy and enjoyed that event in May that we said, when it comes to summer time, we should run another event just for the rock, and that's exactly what we've done."

Fifteen bands are lined up to perform, including The Blair Allen Set, Rising Force and Steezin Hawkings.

The bands are mostly from the Kapiti Coast, with a few from Wellington and the Hutt Valley, Craddock said.

They will play from 7pm to midnight on Friday and 8pm to midnight on Saturday, starting with One Man Glam and The Surf Daddies on Friday.

ZM radio will also be at the Waterfront Bar on Saturday, with prizes to give out.

"The ambience, quality food, range of drinks and geographical location of the Waterfront venue will be perfect for another musical event," Craddock said.

November 30, 7pm to 12am, December 1, 4pm to 12am, Waterfront Bar, $10. For the full programme, see Thursday's Kapiti Observer.
