Three teams shared the spoils in Kapiti Coast Softball Club's annual Premier 1 tournament during the weekend at Te Atiawa Park.

Miramar, Hutt Valley Dodgers and Poneke Kilbirnie were joint winners, each winning three matches and losing one.

Kapiti club captain Willy Palmer said five teams contested the tournament, including Johnsonville and Porirua City United, with Kapiti not having a Premier 1 team.

The tournament leads into the Premier 1 season starting this week, while Premier 2 competition, including Kapiti's teams, will start at Labour Weekend.

Kapiti have confirmed a Premier 2 men's team will take part in the Wellington league, coming together over the past couple of weeks.

''It will be more of a development team, with about five or six guys confirmed, and then some of our under-17s players in there as well,'' Palmer said.

''We've got Michael Jamieson playing, whose brother is Sean from the Black Sox, and we've got Les Poutama who played Premier 1 for years.
''Les will be great at developing the boys and bringing them through.

It'll harden them up and take them up to that next level.''

Two Premier 2 women's teams will also play in Wellington, while the club have several social teams competing.

The Premier 2 seasons starts October 20, with under-17 softball beginning the weekend after.
