What's coming up in sport and outdoor activities
There will be plenty of sport and outdoor events in Wellington to keep the family entertained over summer.
Cricket fans will be able to soak up New Zealand's most popular summer game at the Basin Reserve and Karori Park this summer with two Twenty20 matches and one Plunket Shield game.
They can check out the form of Black Caps such as James Franklin, Jesse Ryder, Jeetan Patel and Mark Gillespie.
There will also be loads of soccer action for Yellow Fever fans, with the Phoenix playing Western Sydney in the new year.
Aeroplane enthusiasts can look forward to the Wings over Wairarapa air show in mid-January or perhaps try to emulate flying contraptions in Birdman Wellington on the waterfront on Wellington Anniversary weekend (January 19 till 21).
Oriental Bay will also be a hive of activity on anniversary weekend with beach soccer and touch rugby tournaments. The tournaments are free and open to all ages.
