Every ingredient was in harmony in the Mexi Jalapeno Popper burger.
My Wairarapa Beef patty was served with halloumi, red onions, sour cream and a pasilla and guajillo salsa, all of which combined for a distinctly Mexican style.
The perfect amount of spice from the salsa worked brilliantly with the tasty halloumi and the toasted bun allowed for a ‘hands on’ approach that has sadly been lacking in many of the competition’s burgers.
There was also a vegetarian option available that included a refried bean patty and, if the carnivorous version was any indication, I would put my casa on it delivering on flavour.
This veritable feast of a burger is served with equally impressive accompaniments.
The jalapeno popper almost stole the show, balancing the sweetness and spice of the jalapeno-marinated capsicum with a cream cheese filling.
I appreciated the homemade corn chips and guacamole that accompanied the burger though they are somewhat outshined by the popper.
The ‘Mexi Jalapeno Popper burger’ married the virtues of traditional burgers with Mexican flair exquisitely and is undoubtedly one of the picks of the competition.
