Prison guard charged with indecent assault

A Rimutaka Prison guard has been stood down after being charged with indecently assaulting a young adult male.
The alleged assault occurred on July 18 and was not work-related.
Prison manager Paul Rushton said police were investigating the alleged assault which occurred outside the prison.
"Once Police have completed their investigation it will become an employment matter between the Department and the staff member concerned," he said.
The guard has been bailed to appear in the Upper Hutt District Court on Wednesday. He has been stood down from work at Rimutaka Prison.
Upper Hutt police detective sergeant Tony Heathcote said a 46-year-old man was arrested at about 9am today at his Upper Hutt home.
