LETTER TO THE EDITOR

As a Christian I'm not ashamed to give a short summary of the Bible's perspective on same-sex relationships.

They are described as unnatural and perverted, Romans 1:26. The male is not designed for the male nor the female for the female, as males and females.

As someone has said, and I agree: The proposed legislation represents the most profound and momentous act of social engineering which this nation has ever seen in its entire history. One of the main pillars which has upheld every society that ever existed is about to be dismantled and reassembled in a different shape.

The issue, largely ignored in this debate, is that marriage is not a human invention that we can reconstruct as we please. It's not instituted by man. It predates both church and state.

When asked about divorce, Jesus replied: ''Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and cling to his wife and the two shall be one flesh''.

Since God invented marriage He also defines what constitutes marriage. We have no right to tamper with it, rejection of marriage as designed by God is therefore an act of rebellion against God.

This isn't about prejudice, intolerance or hatred but is simply a recognition of reality of human life as designed by God. It remains the only way by which it can be perpetuated.
