Two Upper Hutt boys won $1700 kayaks from Fergs Kayaks at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club's Outdoor Expo over the weekend.
Company owner, Olympic gold medallist Ian Ferguson, said the boys could not have been more "perfect" winners as they were from an age group which usually could not afford their own.
The boys' names were drawn from hundreds of entries.
The club's fishing adjunct gave each a life jacket and paddle.
Mr Ferguson is the grandson of Jimmy Hazelwood, who founded pioneer Upper Hutt firm Hazelwoods.
Mr Ferguson's mother, Winsome Hazelwood, lived in Henry St until she married Gilbert Ferguson and moved to his Taumarunui hometown.
The two-day outdoor expo was held at the club and organised by its fishing adjunct.
Exhibitors included the army and sellers of outdoor ovens and pizzeria, kayaks, dive gear, quad bikes and fishing and hunting equipment.
One of the organisers, Todd McIlvride, said they hoped to make it an annual event.
Numbers through the door on Saturday were 450 but there were fewer on Sunday.
Mr McIlvride said exhibitors were pleased with sales and described the venue as excellent.
