A no-drama second- day's play brought an outright win to Mitre 10 Mega Upper Hutt on Saturday in Hazlett Trophy cricket.
The comfortable seven wicket win over Petone-Eastbourne was good reward for a game the locals dominated and leaves them sitting pretty at the top of the table after, admittedly, only the opening round.
Going into the second day at Barton Oval (again in perfect conditions) with a 112-run first-innings lead, Upper Hutt bowled their opposition out for a more respectable 211 but were left needing only to hit up 99 to take the game.
With skipper Leighton Morgan continuing his recent good form (42 not out off 81 balls backing up his first innings 85) and Dan Van Der Hayden flourishing at the end with an unbeaten 31 (off 29 balls and including six boundaries), Upper Hutt hit up the winning runs in just 26 overs.
Earlier Sam Outtrim finished with Upper Hutt's best bowling figures in an accurate team effort in the field. The off-spinner gathered another three wickets (for 32) to give him six for the game.
