A girl with "severe" injuries was extracted by helicopter from Rimutaka Forest Park today.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the park, north of Wellington, about 2pm, pilot Logan Taylor said.

"The helicopter was unable to land near the patient due to dense bush.

"The Paramedic was winched down into a clear area and then was able to walk approximately four minutes to where the patient was."

The patient was flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department, where she was treated for her injuries.

Mr Taylor was unable to provide the girl's age or information on the nature of the injuries.
