A youth who was allegedly on the run with a convicted sex offender for almost a week has been remanded in custody.
Jaydon Galland, 18, appeared in the Christchurch District Court today on 24 charges.
He is alleged to have left Christchurch with convicted sex offender Ivan Andrew Campbell, 46, who is expected to face a charge of breaching his parole by absconding from the Salisbury Foundation in Merivale.
Galland was remanded in custody without plea to November 21.
Police say the pair were assisted by a third man, 25-year-old Jamie Campbell, also known as Alexander Paul Jones, who was arrested with them in the bush at Arthur's Pass yesterday.
Jamie Campbell appeared before Judge Brian Callaghan and at the request of defence counsel Rupert Glover he was remanded on bail to November 29 on charges of breaching community detention, dishonestly using a document and breach of prison release conditions.
Police agreed to his release on bail on conditions that he live at a specified address in North New Brighton, abide by a curfew, answer the door if police arrived to check on him and report twice a week to the New Brighton police.
Duty solicitor Lee-Lee Heah said the Probation Service opposed Galland's release on bail and no application was being made today.
She said that bail could be considered when a legal-aid application had been filed and Galland's counsel assigned.
He is charged with unlawfully taking a car, careless driving, four charges of wilful damage, seven of making threats, two of causing damage with graffiti, assaulting a police officer, theft of a knife from the Salisbury Foundation, two breaches of intensive supervision, breach of community detention, disorderly behaviour, possession of cannabis and two charges of having equipment for taking drugs.
He had already been listed to appear today on most of the charges before being held in custody after his arrest yesterday.
It was believed Ivan Campbell was being processed at the police station and that he would appear in court later today.
