A nationwide man hunt for a high-risk child sex offender who has been on the run from police for three weeks has ended near Auckland.

Darren Albert Jolly, 47, was arrested after he was found hiding in a garage at a home in Red Beach, Rodney this morning.

He was scheduled to appear in the North Shore District Court today, police said.

His bail would be opposed by police.

Multiple arrest warrants had been issued for Jolly in relation to alleged breaches of an extended supervision order.

Jolly left Wellington on November 7 and was believed to have stolen a car from a Kapiti car dealership.
