A ten-month old boy who died after allegedly being run over in a paddock was Caleb Isaac Steel.

Waikato road policing manager Inspector Marcus Lynam said yesterday that crash investigators were still trying to determine the circumstances around how the boy came to be fatally injured at property on Old Taupiri Rd, near Ngaruawahia, on Saturday.

But it is alleged he was run over by a utility vehicle.

Lynam said Hamilton police officers were called to Waikato Hospital shortly before 10pm on Saturday following the boy's death.

The police would not divulge anymore information on the boy's death expect to say it had been reported to the coroner.

Caleb lived at the rented property with his parents Philip and Pip Steel, who are in the process of building a new house on behind the property, the New Zealand Herald reported.

A family spokesperson said it was a "tragic accident" and that Caleb was a "real charmer" who was loved by everyone.

Caleb's funeral will be held tomorrow at Life Church, in Kent St, Frankton.
