Woman found trapped in car boot

A woman in her 30s has been found dehydrated in the boot of a car on a rural South Auckland roadside.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said he was told police were called to a spot on Ararimu Rd - 10 minutes from the Ramarama off-ramp - where an off-duty nurse had stopped to investigate a black Nissan Skyline at 5pm on Tuesday night.

Because the "new-looking car" had been parked on the country road for the past couple of days, she looked in the window and saw the centre console had been pushed in.

The resident was told that when she tapped on the window she saw a hand move and was then able to get into the vehicle to free the trapped woman, who was found to be dehydrated.

The nurse tended to the woman after calling emergency services.

A St John spokeswoman confirmed the patient had been taken to Middlemore Hospital with minor injuries.

It is unclear what those specific injuries were or how long the woman had been there.

Police would not comment on the situation only to say there may be some mental health issues involved.
