Diversions are in place after a crash on SH1 south of Otaki which left people trapped.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of Te Horo Beach Rd about 11.10am.

An ambulance communications spokesman said two people were injured in the crash.

One was taken to Palmerston North Hospital with serious injuries while another person was taken to Hutt Hospital with minor injuries.
