Two South Auckland men have appeared in court charged with the murder of Shalvin Prasad, who was found burned to death hours after he withdrew tens of thousands of dollars from his bank account.

An 18 and 20-year-old appeared at the Manukau District Court this morning after being arrested yesterday. They were granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody until February 22.

Media were not granted permission to film or photograph the defendants in order to "protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation".

Detective Inspector Dave Lynch said although police were pleased to have made early arrests, there was still a lot of work to to do to complete the investigation and prepare the file for court.

Police still wanted information concerning property belonging to Prasad.

This property included keys to his Toyota RAV4, a house key, a steering wheel lock key, his wallet, ASB eftpos card and driver's licence.

Prasad, 21, had saved the money withdrawn from his bank account over a long period.

Prasad's scorched body was discovered a fortnight ago on the side of McRobbie Rd in Kingseat, Auckland.
