Traffic has backed up in Crofton Downs after a woman crashed her car and fainted while trying to get around road works on Churchill Dr.

Inspector Marty Parker said the woman had mounted the kerb to get around road works between Silverstream Rd and Chartwell Dr.

She hit a road cone then reversed in to another car just before 1pm.

She then got out of her car and collapsed as road workers went to her assistance.

The woman, about 40 years old, was in a moderate condition. She has been taken to Wellington Hospital.

Traffic was delayed in both directions, causing access problems for the Crofton Downs shopping centre and service station.
