Niue Premier Toke Talagi has called for the people of Fiji to "rise" against the military regime led by Frank Bainimarama.
He said the road map to free elections in the country by 2014 was unacceptable.
"Perhaps citizens of Fiji must now rise," he said ... and then after a pause ... "to the challenge the undemocratic rule of the military regime and restore democracy for the sake of the future of their children."
He said they must take responsibility for their destiny.
Speaking at the opening of the Pacific Islands Forum in Cairns, the Niue leader - the former chair of the forum - also urged forum leaders to consider resettling island populations displaced by the impact of climate change on the region.
"Resettlement must be seriously considered and I wonder if the forum is ready for serious discussions on the issue."

Should bicycle helmets be mandatory?
It does'nt surprise me, it's not hard to find people like you to encourage unstability. You do not have a background knowledge of the problems other ethnic majority and the minority people faced with the high level corruption in the name of "native blue print" set by the Qarase govert. Mr.Bainimarama is putting everyone and the govt. policies racial-free. Is this not good enough. Who else will do this dirty job. George Bush got the blame - but is it not alot safer now?
