While some voters did not take the opportunity to have their say in the Tai Tokerau by-election on Saturday, others were being turned away at the door.
Some Pakeha reportedly turned up at polling booths throughout Northland and West Auckland, having mistakenly thought it was the general election.
Finding they were ineligible to vote on the Maori roll, they were told to "come back in November, you'll have your turn then", one Mana Party supporter said.
