A driver has been injured after crashing into a road works warning truck.

The car hit the ''control truck'' in the northbound lane of the State Highway 1 motorway just south of the Porirua off ramp about 6.30am, Acting Inspector Bruce Mackay said.

Control trucks were used during roadworks to direct traffic into correct lanes.

They were recognisable by the large electronic arrows on their back.

A driver, thought to be from the car, had moderate injuries. The crash was slowing traffic.
