A suspected live grenade has been removed from a Titahi Bay house by bomb disposal officers.
The army unit went to the house after its owner discovered it item in his basement.
Sergeant Guy Callahan said the object had not yet been positively identified as a grenade, but that the man had put it back in a box and left it outside his home as he waited for the army unit to arrive.
Police had been at the scene monitoring the situation before the unit arrived.
