Martinborough firefighter still in ICU
BREAKING NEWS REPORTER
Martinborough volunteer firefighter Peter Fisher, who was assaulted while trying to help others, remains in intensive care at Wellington Hospital.
Mr Fisher had been asked to help eject an unwanted guest from a gathering early on Sunday when the gatecrasher is said to have attacked him.
The man was understood to have arrived uninvited at a gathering of six teenagers on Broadway St.
Mr Fisher is now in a stable condition in the intensive care unit at Wellington Hospital.
Police said the gathering, mostly of girls, was supervised and the gatecrasher, who lived nearby and was known to the group, was intoxicated.
Milton Haira, 25, of Martinborough has been charged with assault. He has been remanded in custody to reappear in Masterton District Court next week.
Police said further charges would also be laid in relation to alleged assaults on others at the house.
