Two people were flown to Wellington Hospital after separate accidents yesterday.

About 2pm yesterday the Westpac rescue helicopter was called to a motocross accident in hills east of Pirinoa in Wairarapa.

The rider, a Hawke's Bay man in his late 40s, was flown to Wellington Hospital with moderate chest injuries.

At about 4.50pm the helicopter was called to a car crash on Coast Rd, Wainuiomata, where emergency services were trying to free a woman trapped in her vehicle.

Once freed, the woman was flown to Wellington Hospital with moderate injuries.

A second person in the car was taken to hospital by Wellington Free Ambulance.
