A man is dead after a crash between a motorcycle and a car on the Rimutaka Hill Rd.

Police spokesman Guy Callahan said the crash happened about 7.30 Wednesday night on the Featherston side of the State Highway 2 road, and a man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The road was closed while emergency services manage the incident.

Paramedics and a rescue helicopter also attended, but the man died before he could be taken to hospital.

Drivers are being advised to postpone their travel or expect delays.
