Streetside argument turns to stabbing
A woman was taken to hospital for surgery after she was stabbed when an argument in the street "got out of hand".
Police were called to Bannister Court in Masterton at about 8pm last night after two women in their 20s got into an argument and one was stabbed, Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller said.
Ambulance staff were attending to the woman, who was bleeding profusely from a wound to the back of her upper arm.
"Some sort of vein or artery has been nicked," Mr Miller said.
She was taken to Masterton Hospital and then transferred to Wellington Hospital overnight for surgery. She was in a stable condition today.
Police arrested one person in relation to the incident and she would face a serious charge, Mr Miller said. She was likely to appear in court this afternoon.
The women knew each other but were not related.
Police did not know yet what caused the argument. They were hoping to interview the victim this afternoon and appealed for anyone with any information to contact them.
"It just started off as an argument and got a bit out of hand," Mr Miller said.
A scene examination was under way today in Bannister Court.
