End of Wellington's golden weather

The balmy weather Wellington has enjoyed this week will be cut short when a cold front moves over the capital for the weekend.

MetService forecaster Brooke Lockhart said Wellingtonians should awake to strong northerly winds tomorrow morning, with some rain later in the morning.

A cold southerly front would move in about noon with initial strong winds.

The front would bring a ''significant drop'' in temperatures.

''You will feel it.''

While Sunday would become fine, MetService was only predicting a maximum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius.
