Sleet is falling on the Rimutaka Hill Rd this morning as Wellington wakes to a wet start to the day.

MetService forecaster Stephen Glassey said showers and a southerly flow covering Wellington early today should clear later this morning for a fine but cold afternoon.

On the Rimutaka Hill Rd, where sleet was falling this morning, the temperature was 1.6 degrees Celsius.

Apart from some possible showers early tomorrow, the rest of the week was expected to be fine.
