A large high that just gave Wellington a spectacular weekend will stick around for the week.
Highs in the capital were expected to reach 23 degrees Celsius this week, while Wairarapa could reach highs of 29C, MetService forecaster John Law said.
The only glitch in the summery spell, which is forecast to run till Friday, would be some drizzle possible for Wednesday morning in Wellington.
Even nights were expected to be ''quite warm and sticky'' this week, with overnight lows only expected to drop to 15C to 17C overnight in Wellington.
By the weekend, the weather was expected to become more unsettled, Mr Law said.
Most of the lower North Island was expected to follow a similar pattern, except in Taupo and Hawke's Bay, where rain is expected in the second half of the week.
