A woman has been knocked unconscious after being hit by a van in central Wellington.

Police said the woman had been hit on the corner of Whitmore St and Waterloo Quay.

The extent of her injuries is currently unknown.

One land of Waterloo Quay southbound has been blocked. Police and ambulance are in attendance.

The woman, described as in her early 40s, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said it appeared she had been hit by a van.
