For Wellington entrepreneur Christian Newman, coy smiles from the ladies are just part of the job.
Mr Newman and workmate Stacey Quick were strutting their stuff outside the Wellington Wedding Show on the waterfront yesterday as walking advertisements for Strip of Meat topless waiters.
"It was a nice day but it was still bloody cold.
"We made people's heads turn. The guys were giving us weird looks, wondering what was going on, but the girls smiled."
Mr Newman said the idea for the company came after he was asked by a friend to be a waiter at her hen's night in Taupo.
"I wasn't even wearing an apron, just a pair of underpants and a bow tie.
"It was a bit raunchy and made me realise there is a market out there."
The topless waiters were definitely not strippers and would normally be dressed in black trousers with an obligatory bow tie, he said.
Strip of Meat had already done a few hen's nights in Wellington but were also available for baby showers, dinner parties and even corporate functions.
He was asked by one woman yesterday whether they would wait on a mums-only night which was fundraising for a kindergarten.
"We'll mix drinks, help prepare food and even do the dishes afterwards.
"It's all about taking pressure off the organisers so they can relax.
"And it's about fun."
