The funeral for Te Papa chief executive Seddon Bennington will be held at Te Papa's marae at 1pm on Wednesday.

Dr Bennington, 61, and his tramping companion Marcella Jackson, 54, died of hypothermia in the Tararua Range during a tramp from Otaki Forks to Kime Hut last weekend. Their bodies were recovered on Wednesday.

A service will be held for Ms Jackson tomorrow at St Andrew's on The Terrace in Wellington, at 11am.

Dr Bennington's casket will be taken to the marae Rongomaraeroa at 4pm tomorrow and people will be able to pay respects until 10pm.

The marae will be closed to the public during the funeral.

Dr Bennington's wife, Frances, who separated from him three years ago, said the family were happy his funeral would be held at the waterfront museum he had run for the past six years.
