They sing, dance and sparkle - meet Dancestars, Wellington's own girl band.
The budding popstars are in the final of the Nickelodeon channel's Kiwi Kid Band Search, a competition to find the country's top young music talent. They have made it through to the top three, beating 82 other entries.
Yesterday, they made a "mini music video", performing their own song Anything You Wanna Be.
The Dancestars are Kelly Vincent, 11, Brogan Wilkinson, 13, Anna Houston, 12, Anna Hinderwell, 13, and Olivia Heatherington, 12.
The girls go to different schools but take dance and singing classes together and formed a group, Sparkle, six years ago.
But now they go by the name Dancestars because "it shows that we love to dance and are sparkly", Anna Hinderwell said.
The girls blend their own styles, from pop, rock, hip hop, jazz and ballet.
"We each have our own genre. I'm a ballet star ... It's fun, because the others are putting the funk into it," Anna said.
And like the Spice Girls before them, they have their own stage names: Summer, Stevie, Cassie, Mia and Isabella or B.
Anna said the song, written by their coach, Ben Hazelwood, was one of her favourites. "It's about doing your best and making your dreams come true."
Brogan said they had all been dancing "since we were toddlers". Recording yesterday was "really cool".
Dance teacher Emma Sutherland said the band worked together well, combining their own styles into their performances.
"They're 12 and 13 and have a lot of ideas, especially about costumes. They're very creative and speak up." They were "absolutely hyped" about having a music video on television.
Nickelodeon marketing co-ordinator Danielle Knight said the Dancestars were polished performers. "The song just blew us away. The vocals and dancing were great, and the fact they can do both, sing and dance, is cool."
The mini music videos of the three bands Dancestars and the other finalists from Auckland and Christchurch will be played on the TV station and online at www.nicknz.co.nz.
Viewers can text and vote online for the winner from August 24 until September 6. And for the winning group, there's a studio session, music video and interviews.

They're alright... I don't think they are good enough to be NZ's next girl band though, and it looks like they get all their music made for them.
I'm constantly amazed by the talent lurking right under our noses. Well done girls and best wishes for the Kiwi Kid Band Search!!!
