A radical revamp is proposed for Wellington's rush-hour rail service.

As part of $49 million overhaultimetables will be thrown out, more trains would depart directly from hubs in  Porirua, Johnsonville and Taita every morning, and commuters living further afield would travel express into the city from those points. The same system would operate in reverse each evening.

The Basin Flyover is also up for debate and issues are being discussed at a board of inquiry.
