A woman suffered minor injuries when she jumped out of a moving car to escape her husband during a domestic argument, police say.
The incident occurred about 3.30pm yesterday on Bracken Rd in Newlands, north of Wellington.
The wife appeared to have decided to exit the car during an argument, a police spokesman said.
''There was obviously a dispute between wife and husband. He was driving. Inquiries and witness accounts suggest she chose to step out of a moving vehicle, which is never a good idea.
''The people following behind said she opened the door and jumped out voluntarily.''
Police and ambulance staff attended the scene.
The woman was treated on site by paramedics and was later taken to Wellington Hospital, the police spokesman said.
Police praised members of the public who phoned in the incident and tried to help the woman.
