A 10-year-old boy's cellphone was stolen from him by an man in broad daylight in the Wellington suburb of Mt Victoria.
The incident happened on Hania St at about 2pm on Sunday, Detective Sergeant Mark Scott of Wellington police said.
''The boy was walking along listening to music on his cellphone and this adult has grabbed him, demanded the cellphone and run away.''
The man had turned on to Pirie St, Mr Scott said.
The offender was described as European, aged about 20, with red hair and freckles, and wearing black rimmed sunglasses with blue lenses.
He was about 175cm tall, of medium build, and wearing a black puffer jacket.
