High winds and rain have disrupted travel in the Wellington region.
* East by West Ferries have cancelled all late-afternoon sailings to Days Bay and Seatoun. Shuttles will depart Queen's Wharf at 4.30, 5.30 and 6.30pm.
* Tranz Metro said that services on the Johnsonville line were running about 10 minutes late due to slippery track conditions. Normal services were expected to resume at 6.30pm.
* A flight was diverted from Wellington and another cancelled due to high winds this afternoon.
Gusts of 126kmh were recorded in Kelburn about 1pm while one of 125kmh was recorded on Mt Kaukau, MetService meteorologist Dan Corbett.
There was an increase in wind at the time as a warm front spread across the North Island, squeezing the isobars further north together, he said.
While it would remain windy all afternoon it should ease before picking up about midnight and through tomorrow.
Gusts of 130kmh are forecast for Wellington and Wairarapa tomorrow.
An Air New Zealand spokesman said high winds this afternoon meant a Dunedin to Wellington flight was diverted to Palmerston North and passengers were driven to Wellington.
A Wellington to Auckland flight this afternoon was cancelled because of the wind.
Jetstar had no affected flights.
