Police have been called to Newtown, after reports of gang members causing trouble around Wellington Hospital.

The gang members were not fighting, but were loitering in the general area and people felt intimidated, a police communications spokesman said.

It was thought they were trying to visit a friend who was in hospital.

The incident was reported at about 3pm.
