Some Wellington Vodafone broadband customers were without internet overnight.
Vodafone this morning said the software outage started at 7am today and was fixed by 9am.
It then changed its statement, saying the outage actually began at 10pm yesterday.
While teams worked on fixing it overnight, the problem was handed to an ''emergency team'' shortly before 7am today, a spokeswoman said.
The outage did not affect all Wellington Vodafone customers and appeared to be limited to Vodafone customers who were with Vodafone before it bought Telstra Clear last year.
Previous Telstra customers, who had switched to Vodafone, were not affected.
Only fixed-line - as opposed to mobile - customers were affected.
It was not clear how many customers lost access to internet.
