A car spun out of control and wound up facing the wrong way in the fast lane near Ngauranga Gorge this morning.

The crash happened in the southbound lane between Ngauranga Gorge and Aotea off ramp of State Highway 1 into Wellington about 9.40am, Sergeant Guy Callahan said.

The crash caused delays into Wellington this morning.

It appeared the car had spun out of control, ending up facing the wrong way in the southbound fast lane.

There were no reported injuries.

The scene had been cleared by 10.30am.
