Wellington Police are hunting a possibly-armed convict who has breached his prison release conditions.

Police are seeking the public's help as they try to locate Ashor Gorgus, whom they warn should not be approached.

Police have issued a warrant for his arrest for a breach of prison release conditions.

Gorgus is considered dangerous and has displayed unpredictable behaviour. He is known to carry weapons including firearms, police said.
