OPINION: I am disappointed. I have been raised to respect and listen to my elders, but this Government has let me down in a way that it will probably not live to comprehend.

Its emissions targets announcement has showed cowardice in the face of an international problem of utmost importance (Aug 11). Is short-term economic gain of an extra 3 per cent GDP per capita growth really worth my future?

Droughts, sea level rise, cyclones, climate refugees and dengue fever are on the horizon, threatening life, the environment and the economy, but a GDP projection and short-term growth are more important?

I urge the Government to look at the real costs of inaction and the real gains of action. We can change our future and fix this problem if we act decisively and immediately.

I will continue to fight for a future for my children and will continue to believe that politicians can do the same for theirs.

Which of these options for public transport fare increases should Greater Wellington regional council choose?

Increase one-zone cash fares by 50 cents

Replace the $1 city-section fare with a $2 one-zone fare

Increase both the city section and one-zone fares by 50 cents

Increasing fares is fine, but none of those options are suitable

Fares should not be increased
