How much interest do you have in the Fifa 2014 Football World Cup?

A die-hard ... I'll try to watch every game.

I'll watch all but the very early games.

I'll be glued to TV when the knockout games start.

Give me a nudge for the final next month. Perhaps.

What cup?

Football mad fans crammed into Wellington's Shed 6 this morning for the opening match of the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

After a colourful opening ceremony, a crowd of about 650 settled down for the first match, tournament favourites Brazil against Croatia.

Many sported the green and yellow of Brazil, while there was also a fair smattering of red and white from Croatian fans, who went wild when their team drew first blood.

The match went the way of the hosts, however, with Brazil winning 3-1.

Swede Carin Sundstedt, 38, was wearing a Brazil top, and had been whipping up the crowd as a member of percussion group Batucada.

"We're wild about anything Brazilian," she said.

The free "Fiesta of Football" event was organised by the The FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 local organising committee, the Embassy of Brazil and Wellington City Council.

New Zealand's own FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 tournament kicks off in May next year.

It will feature 24 of the world's top under-20 teams including New Zealand.
