LATEST: The Phoenix have got their man.
Socceroos defender Jade North has signed for the Wellington-based A-League club, with an official announcement expected this afternoon.
The former Newcastle Jets captain, one of the best central defenders in the A-League, had been trialing in China but has opted to take up a one-year deal with the Phoenix.
His signature takes to 20 the number of players on the Phoenix roster, the minimum requirement for all A-League teams, though coach Ricki Herbert has indicated he will sign at least one more player.
Indonesian striker Bambang Pamungkas, who has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances for his country, arrives in Wellington this weekend for a trial period.
The Phoenix have one more pre-season match, against the national under 20 team next Saturday, before kicking off their A-League campaign at home against Gold Coast United on August 13.
They have a first round bye.
