Wellington will today unveil the final piece of their Twenty20 jigsaw; an Australian state fast bowler who will play their opening double-header this weekend.

The Firebirds want to fill a gap before their big signing, Brett Lee, debuts on December 14, so they have sought a stand-in for home matches against Otago and Canterbury next weekend.

It is understood to be either an experienced paceman not required for his state one-day side this week, or Victorian quick Jayde Herrick who made a good impression in his first-class debut for Wellington in last week's draw with Otago.

Wellington's selectors last night confirmed 23 names for tomorrow's trial at Kelburn Park, including English import Luke Wright who made an instant impression in club cricket with an innings of 85 off 45 balls for Naenae on Saturday.

Those to earn a trial with impressive club performances included former Central Districts wicketkeeper/batsman Marc Calkin, big-hitting batsmen Stephen Murdoch, Phil Tunnicliffe and Jimad Khan, and all-rounder Ronald Karaitiana.

Former Otago and Wellington batsman Leighton Morgan was unavailable for the initial T20 rounds.

Meanwhile, Lee hit form with 5-47 for New South Wales in a one-dayer against Western Australia on Friday.

The first of his six scheduled T20 appearances is against Auckland at the Basin Reserve on December 14.

Wellington triallists: Joe Austin-Smellie, Matthew Bell, Harry Boam, Dewayne Bowden, Marc Calkin, Fraser Colson, Jeremy Dean, Scott Golder, Mark Houghton, Ronald Karaitiana, Jimad Khan, Andrew Lamb, Cameron Merchant, Stephen Murdoch, Chris Nevin, Neal Parlane, Jeetan Patel, Michael Pollard, Fraser Quarterman, Stewart Rhodes, Phil Tunnicliffe, Luke Woodcock, Luke Wright.
